Kat was there to both cheer on all competitors and provide care to some of the athletes competing.
Day one saw a few crashes on the notoriously tight hot dog circuit at Ritchie Boulevard with all involved escaping serious injury.
Great sprint by Chloe Hosking took out the Women’s event after a long break of five riders held off, with Peta Mullins putting in a great effort to get fourth after driving the break for much of the race.
A few strong breaks in the Men’s event made for great spectating and Caleb Ewan showed us the form we got to know here last year with his final sprint leaving Greg Henderson tight to a lamp post (as Greg put it) Michael Hepburn treated it like a time trial and lead the peloton for about 45mins of the 60min race
